Tigers

Return to Jake's Page

“Take out the trash already,” she tells him. “It’s going to attract tigers if you let it lie around like this.”

“Again with the tigers?” He snorts. “There’s no tigers within a thousand miles of here.”

“Your father and I work our whole lives to keep this home free of tigers and you won’t even lift a finger to protect your family!”

“From what?” He asks, “Phantom tigers who hunt for garbage? You must be crazy.”

“Oh that you should say such things!” She wails. “Without a thought for your family’s safety. What about the baby? Do you want that a tiger should eat your baby sister?”

“There are no goddamn tigers.” he says and he storms out on his poor mother, just like that. How she suffered from that son of hers.

So a pack of tigers sweeps through the house that night, all fangs and fire, and sure enough, in the morning the baby was gone. Never to be seen again. All because that nudnik wouldn’t listen to his own mother and take out the trash when she asked him to. It was a schande for the whole family, it was. Now are you so high and mighty that you can’t be bothered for tigers?
