In this floor plan of the Gruppenzinshaus apartment palace, courtyards, shown by x's, are accessable by all eight apartments in the building. The apartments also all had many windows facing the surrounding streets. These aspects of the buildings meant that the middle-class residents of these apartment palaces could have all the amenities of single family buildings, without the extrordinary price associated with them.
