Airport
Air Algerie, the national airline, flies domestic and international routes. A number of other international carriers connect Algeria to international destinations. Eight international airports are operating, the largest of which is near Algiers. Other major airports provide an important link to the towns and oases of the south, which are difficult to reach over land. The country has large seaports at Algiers and Oran. The busy port of Annaba handles many of Algeria’s industrial and oil exports. The Algiers airport is one of a number of construction projects which have long lain dormant and are finally coming back to life. The newly formed state airport body SIEGA has received proposals from some 17 groups to prequalify for the completion and management of a new terminal at the country's principal airport. The project, estimated to cost come $300 million, involves the completion of a terminal which will serve 6 million passengers a year.
