In this map, Makkah is represented by the growth towards the left. The dark green area amongst the highways' focus is the Holy Mosque. As you can see, the city has embraced the sprawling urban landscape that so many Western cities have employed. The land with access to the major highways seems to be in the highest demand. This gives the city the shape of a star following the highways out, as opposed to the linear shape it had less then a century ago.
