The climate of the Durban Metropolitan Area is characterized by warm temperatures and abundant rainfall year-round but exhibits a strong seasonal pattern of cooler temperatures and reduced rainfall in the winter months. According to the Strahler system of climate classification, Durban's climate is thus defined as Trade-Wind Coastal.
