Physical Geography: Situation
Durban is located at 30° S latitude and 31° N longitude on the
eastern coast of South Africa, in the providence of KwaZulu-Natal.
Durban is extremely advantaged by its relative location which offers a high degree of accessibility not only the interior of the African continent and the east coast but to Asia and Australia as well. This fact combined with South Africa's economic superiority on the African continent has made Durban the key trading gateway to Africa and central place for international trade.
One of the few things that Durban does not have going for it is an international airport accessible from all areas of the globe. Currently a new airport is scheduled to be completed by 2010 and it is expected that once this facility is complete Durban's relative location will become even more central in the world economy.
