The BMRDA, now known as the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional
Development Authority (MMRDA) was created in 1975. In
1983
it tried to rectify the damage that had been caused by the Back
Bay Reclamation Project. Unfortunately, the damage that the project
had done to Bombay was too severe, and they were unable to completely fix
what it had done. During the same time they were also helping with the Visai/Virar project. They also worked on the
upgradation of slums both before and after the
1985 Slum Upgradation Act.
