Mumbai

"Beautiful Bay, Goddess of Water"

Mumbai is situated in Western India in the region known as Maharshtra. It has one of the world's best natural harbors, which is located on the Arabian Sea. It is India's second largest, but most modern city. It has even been compared to New York City and has been dubbed the Manhattan of the East. The name Bombay is derived from the Portuguese words, "Bom Bahia" which mean beautiful bay. The name was changed in 1995 to Mumbai, which is a native Koli word derived from the word Mumba, or goddess of water.
