Physical Setting

 

Mumbai is situated in western India in the region of Maharashtra. It is bordered on the east by the Arabian Sea and on the West by the Western Ghats, a mountain range. It originally consisted of seven islands which were only connected at high tide.

 

 

Mumbai has a humid tropical temperature. Its average January low temperature of 66ºF (19ºC) and an average high temperature of 84ºF (29ºC). The average May low temperature of 81ºF (27º C) and the high is 92ºF (33ºC).

 

 

 

Because of its humid tropical temperature Mumbai has a wet season and a dry season. It has an average rainfall of 84 inches with 95% of all that rainfall occurring during the monsoon season from June to September.
