In the mid 70's there were only 1,300 busses, 140 Trolleys and 230 trams for 3.5 million passengers daily.casue of the heavy useage the strain causes manyncreasing the strain and so on. They lack parts and adequate maintanence. In 1987 the first transit line opened modeled after the metro in Paris. It cost 1 billion and went only 17 miles with 6 stations. They are still trying to improve this and expand the subway as you are reading this web page today. First phase of a 25 mile line hoping to hold 1 million people. The advent of the Subway in the 80s helpd out the problem, but much of this congestionis still there since each year there is user increase of 15% , but no net increase in usuable vehicles.
Transportation is improving everyday, but there are still many things that need to be done. There are differnt options available. There are Trams, Busses, Subways, and Cars. Each though has its own problems.
Streets are very narrow with most of the old city unpaved. It is one of the largest cities world, yet it still has many unpaved roads. The newer towns are being built with wider roads to accomadate the automobile.
New busses and taxis are needed, but that will just increase the pollution, for a city that is already one of the most heavily polluted cities in the world. It will aalsggravate the already crowded circulation network.
