Due to the difficulty of crossing
the lines, access to shops, schools, work, pubs, recreation facilities,
even buses out of the area is all a hardship. This peaceline, in Alexandra
Park, North Belfast, separates the park into Protestant and Catholic sides,
the only movement across the line is a small stream.
This is especially true in enclave neighborhoods where a small neighborhood
of one group is completely surrounded by estates of the other. Often these
enclaves are themselves surrounded by peacelines to keep the inhabitants
"safe" and enclosed. |
