 Reducing Rioting

Bombed-out Brick RowhouseWithout direct contact with the opposing group, a reduction in the occurrence and severity of rioting results. These "flashpoints," or particularly unstable interfaces, are often scenes of generations-long riots and are some of the first locations for peacewalls. Occasionally an entire area of houses is destroyed either by rioting or the authorities, the RUC or Northern Ireland Office Security Administrator, who then enclose the "wasteland" area with a peaceline. While a reduction in riots is of course a benefit of the walls, there is also an immense reduction in accessiblity to required and amenity locations.
