Chile has a comprehensive national planning program. Two ministries handle both social and urban planning. The Ministry of Planning and Cooperation coordinates the planning activities of municipalities with the regional master plan.  Each of the thirteen regions has a master plan detailing goals for connectivity  and housing development.  There is also a national plan which sets goals for decentralization of services and repopulation of the regions outside the Central Valley.  The Ministry of Housing and Urbanism concentrates its work on planning for the housing needs of Chile’s population.  This includes planning infrastructure improvements, as well as running the programs for subsidized home loans and the national savings program.  One of the large projects currently underway will pave the main streets of over fifty small towns to celebrate the country’s bicentennial.
