Planning in Santiago

Peat and Paving Stone Stroll Urban planning in Santiago is apparent in each of the nineteen neighborhoods that make up Santiago proper.  Each neighborhood has completed a study to determine the future needs of the area.  The process involves a large amount of community input.  Future projects focus on connecting neighborhoods and greater Santiago to the central business district through improvement in roadways, green space creation in the form of parks and “strolls”, and attracting new businesses and job opportunities to disadvantaged communities.  A completed project runs through downtown Santiago.  A path of grass and paving stones was laid right through the city to provide a greenway for office workers and shoppers.

The above  maps show the names of Santiago's neighborhoods and their corresponding  planning  districts.  On the planning map, the purple area is the central  business  district, the gray and dark brown areas are residential districts,  while the beige and green areas are parks and open spaces.  The beige  areas can be used for race tracks, casinos, and other recreational uses.   To read about the projects each neighborhood has planned, visit the city's planning website.  Click on the identical map to be taken  to each neighborhood's project page.
