Helsinki, Finland
"The Daughter of the Baltic."
Helsinki is the capital of Finland, situated on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. Made up of 315
islands, as well as several peninsulas, it enjoys a beautiful natural harbor and a large amount
of greenspace. This harbor and the trading connections it forged have made Helsinki a vibrant
and commerce oriented community.
This webpage attempts to explore the urban development and structure of Helsinki. While
definitely not a major European city like London or Paris, Helsinki's metro population of over
1 million people makes it a sizable conurbation, and worthy of exploration.
