Havana beachHistorically, Havana has had the reputation of being a cosmopolitan city. People flocked to Havana because of the bustling nightlife, the fabulous architecture and rich history of the city. Its function as an international port has brought influence from many cultures.

Since Fidel Castro took over the Cuban government in 1959, Havana has been making headlines regularly. Once the playground of the American elite, there is now a U.S. embargo against the Cuba. Many Cubans try to leave their country, making harrowing journeys across the ocean to Florida. The face of Havana has changed in the last forty years, and will continue to change in the future.
