Land Acquistion Act

The Land Acquisition Act was passed in 1967 allowing land to be aquired for any of the following purposes:

• any public purpose;
• any work or an undertaking by any person, corporation or statutory board, which, in the opinion of the Minister of National Development is of public benefit or of public utility or in the public intrest; or
• any residential, commercial or industrial purpose.

As a result of this act 80% of the land in Singapore is government owned today. This makes planning easy since the government can use almost any land on the island in their projects.
