Singapore As A Garden City

In the 1960's the idea of a 'Garden City' was introduced in order to guide Singapore's clean and green image. The idea of greenery was not only for landscaping, but also to help protect people from the tropical sun and massive air pollution. The program began with the planting of trees along roadways, but quickly progressed to adding greenery to help soften harsh concrete structures and adding creepers and climbers around retaining walls, lampposts, and overhanging bridges.
