Welcome
To Tokyo
Tokyo
at nightfall seems to stretch to the horizon, its 930 square miles of brilliant
glitter challenging the last gleams of day. The radio and television mast
of the Tokyo Tower-59 feet higher than the Eiffel Tower on which it was
modelled-lends to the panorama a Parisian look belied by the city's uniformly
modern buildings and light-streaked freeways.
Tokyo stands as Japans national capital and
in terms of urban importance can be regarded as a world city. The administrative
unit of Tokyo is a 2,162 kilometer territory and is formally known as Tokyo-to.
Tokyo has an urban population of 11.8 million and in population comparisons,
it ranks third in the world.
