Socio Economic Patterns

The best way to understand the socio- economic patterns is through the train, subway routes, transportation networks and the commuter flow. The further one moves away from the city the longer and more jammed the train ride. Furthermore an interesting population survey included the facts that many of the commuters travel for the day and return at night to their suburban residents, thereby giving Tokyo a varying population. Also the fact that the center of Tokyo has formed into an "urban donut," whereby the CBD is located in the center pushing the periphery residential areas even further with economic development, has increased commuter traffic. The city can be divided into predominantly two zones: The first zone is the center, where the people congregate and go shopping or visit the entertainment districts. The second is the periphery where the majority of Tokyoites have their homes and community life. The influx of commuters via train is bound to increase as Tokyo becomes more business oriented and the cost of land in the city increases tremendously.
