Transportation

Montego Bay has various modes of public transportation. They range from from taxis, minibuses, old country buses to 'deportees'. Deportees are used or re-conditioned cars that have been imported from Japan. They are in essence up-to-date cars that have been used and made new for cheap. These are taxis but are called deportees because of the notion that they are not wanted any more. Lada cars are also taxis. These cars are also imported, and come from the former Soviet Union, Russia, because they are cheap and easily accessible. These cars form a major part of the transportation fleet that is used, but are now being replaced by the deportees or 'dippies' as they are called. Minibuses that are imported from Japan, also (they may be used or brand new) are used by tour companies for tourists as well as public transportation.

Big 'country' buses are also used much. The one below is such, and is called an Encava bus, there are also Tata buses which look similar.

Privately owned vehicles range from 'deportees' to the most current model Mercedes Benz cars. North American cars are also very popular.

Montego Bay is connected to the world by a first class airport called the Donald Sangster International airport. It is the hub of the Caribbean for Jamaica's national airline Air Jamaica. There are numerous international airlines and major United States carriers that carry thousands of tourists into Montego Bay on a daily basis. This airport has recently undergone a major facelift in order to facilitate the growth of tourism. This airport will soon boast jetbridges and add to its world class international status.
