City Centre

The City Bowl is only about 6km long and is sheltered between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The city centre contains many interesting sights, of which some are mentioned below.

The Castle is the oldest surviving building in Cape Town and is located near to the business district. To learn more about the Castle, click here

A street scene showing one of the stalls that has been permanently added to the city centre. In the background is the imposing town hall clocktower.

The Grand Parade is where Nelson Mandela gave his first speech after his release from prison, from the balcony of the Cape Town City Hall. It is now a bleak and windy car park. Buses leave from the station side of the Parade, and minibus taxis compete for customers amid the friendly chaos on the Strand. At the Plein St. end, an interesting bunch of permanent stalls form a colourful bazaar.

This is the South Africa Museum which has a permanent display of natural history and archaeology.

Cape Town Central Business District (CBD) provides investors with excellent business infrastructure, especially in terms of communications networks, access to research and tertiary education institutions (eg:Cape Town University) and a wide range of financial and business support services. Intercontinental fiber-optic link-ups are provided in the main business nodes.

Skyscrapers and other buildings in the CBD dwarf the Grand Parade and the Cape Town City Hall

The CBD continues to grow dynamically compared to other expanding metropolitan regions. Commercial property trends have displayed a declining inclination in the availability of vacant premises in the city centre for the past three years.
