| NAVJYOTI | Navjyoti is a Hindi word meaning "new light." It is also the name of a portion of the Delhi Police Foundation. Dr. Kiran Bedi believed that criminals with substance abuse could be brought out of helplessness to become beneficial to their communities through helping others. By the late 1990s, Mrs. Bedi's efforts resulted in Navjyoti and programs incorporating activites such as:

| DDA | The Delhi Development Authority has expressed continued concern over the increasing number of slums in the city. The Estimates Commity of the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment of the DDA produced a report during March 1998 that recommended (1) investigation of the unauthorized occupation of DDA tenements and (2) an attempt to curb the continued increase of unauthorized settlements by making the government responsible for slum-dwellers' resettlement. |
| Delhi Water Supply and Sewege Disposal Undertaking | A dual-pipeline system has been proposed as of March 10,1998 to service housing societies and institutions that will be constructed in the future. Because water is in short supply in Delhi, rainwater will have to be harvested for a dual-pipeline system to be feasible. However, both the Indian Institute of Technology and Delhi University are using methods of rainwater harvesting that could be used in a dual-pipeline system The result of the system would be twofold. One, treated water would be saved. And two, a push in efforts towards water conservation would be felt in Delhi. |
