Slums and Unauthorized Colonies
Delhi, the fourth largest city slum ridden city, has a widespread distribution. Pockets of high concentration occur at two major places. One is located along a national highway running southeast from India Gate of New Delhi. The second is located to the east of Connaught Place. These pockets are not the only areas of distribution in the city. Modern maps show distribution to be found in significant numbers throughout Delhi. The DDA has attempted relocation programs. However, they have failed because DDA built tenement housing far removed from places of employment.
