Amalgamation took place in 1998, so that the new city of Toronto consisted of the seven former municipalities. Because of this development, the city has been able to save huge amount of money. The city is now able to utilize their savings for the development of transit system and welfare system.

The city is also bidding for the Olympic Games in 2008, competing with cities such as Beijing, China and Osaka

Due to such efforts to attract people, more immigrants and migrants all over the world will arrive in Toronto and I suppose that it will continue to develop in the future.
