Chapel of Santa Rosalia

The Patron Saint of Palemo, Rosalia (d1166), lived as a hermit in one of the mountain caves of Monte Pellegrino. It was turned into a chapel in 1625 and is known as the Santuario di Santa Rosalia. Festival processions make there way up here every July and September. Statue of the Saint by Gregorio Tedeschi. The water trickling down the walls is held to be miraculous and the grotto is filled with an extrodinary variety of ex-votos
