There are two major changes or type of changes Shanghai should address if it desire to maximize the potential of Shanghai. The first is it should adjust its land use structure and secondly it should create a rational urban morphology. Shanghai needs to relocate its factories from the core to the fringe to open up space for commercial space. Also by doing so, it can reduce population in its core. Furthermore, it needs to increase its road space so that flow of traffic and people are unimpeded. This is important because the roads in the core are very narrow and Shanghai is experiencing problems similar to European cites.(click here for transportation) Shanghai needs to concentrate on integrating villagers into the city and consolidate scattered rural areas so it can expand the city in methodical manner. By making these changes hopefully Shanghai can create a rational urban morphology.
Hopefully this changes will make Shanghai a world class city as it enters the 21st Century. |
