The subtitling project is a group project. The goal of the project is to subtitle a video originally produced in Spanish or Portuguese. The process comes toward the end of the course and will take into account the readings, discussions, training sessions, and so on to produce as professional-appearing a product as possible.

Toward this end the class will:

  • Identify an appropriate video
  • Assign individual tasks consistent with group needs and individual interests and abilities
  • Establish as accurate a transcription of the original screenplay as possible
  • Translate the screenplay into English
  • Learn to use subtitling software
  • Enter the subtitles
  • View and critique the result
  • Assess one's own contribution to the whole effort

A project such as this demands strict adherence to a schedule of deadlines from which little or no deviation is possible. A tentative schedule for completion of various phases is printed in the calendar and is reproduced below as well:
