Each student is responsible for two presentations/teaching sessions sometime during the session.

Some assumptions:

  • Presentations are teaching exercises, lasting about 15 minutes.
  • Presentations are done in pairs.
  • The sessions amplify topics under study in the current chapter.
  • Presentations are usually on Fridays, but may be on other days as well.
  • Brief materials, preferably 1 page, are distributed on the class day prior to the presentation. This usually includes a brief reading, a key word vocabulary list, and analytical questions to consider.
  • Each student will be graded individually.

In the oral presentations I look for:

  • A practiced delivery, in Spanish.
  • Minimal reference to a prepared text.
  • Active engagement with the audience.
  • Thoughtfully prepared materials, distributed in class the day prior to the presentation.

If any of the preceding items is missing the assignment will receive some kind of C. If more than one of the preceding items are missing it will receive an even lower grade.

If the presentation conforms to all of the above criteria I then look for the following:

  • Effective use of some kind of visual and/or audio aid.
  • Thoughtful and realistic solicitation of class feedback to ensure that the presentation is being absorbed.

Based on the degree to which these criteria are met a grade of some kind of A or B will then be assigned.
