Sessões Pedagógicas Estudantis

The Sessões Pedagógicas Estudantis are a fundamental part of the course. They are designed to respond to the core objectives of the course, which comprise conversation, composition, and exploration of vozes luso-brasileiras.

The sessions are essentially 20-25 minute classes conducted by pairs of students to explore some form of Luso-Brazilian voice. The subjects of the classes will vary according to the interests of the presenters and will be chosen in consultation with the instructor.

The method of the sessions should be designed to encourage active learning on the part of the entire class. Although no two sessões will be the same, they should all provide brief but sufficient materials for prior study, reflect comfortable familiarity with the subject matter, and ensure that all class members have the opportunity to participate actively.

On the same day of the presentation each group should submit a lesson plan, written in Portuguese, describing the teachable content of their session, the methods employed to ensure conveyance of knowledge and active student engagement with the topic, and an account of each person's contribution to the effort.

The evaluation of the sessões will be based on the organization, completeness and appropriateness of materials presented, familiarity with the topic, oral preparation, management of resources, methods employed to ensure student involvement in the learning process, and the written account of the session.

Grade assignment:

  1. One grade will be assigned by the instructor and will be worth 80% of the grade for the task.
  2. Another grade will be assigned by the other students in the class who, following the sessions, should write a one-paragraph evaluation of the session justifying a grade of between 0 (no credit whatsoever...usually a no-show) and 10 (a rare experience...truly outstanding). This grade will be worth 20%.
