David Perry is a visiting assistant professor of history at Macalester College. He defended his dissertation, entitled "Mirabilia in mari veniendo:" Venice, Stolen Relics, and the Aftermath of the Fourth Crusade in September 2006 at the University of Minnesota. He has spent the last year and a half teaching at St. Olaf College in their History Department. Before that, he taught as an instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota. He also worked as the undergraduate advisor and website designer for the Institute of Global Studies, as a T.A. for the Human Rights Law program, and Global Studies senior paper. Academically, both his teaching and his scholarship examine cross-cultural contact and conflict, particularly in the medieval and early modern Mediterranean world. At Macalester this year, he will be teaching classes on Jihad and Crusade, the Silk Road, Venice and the Turks, Discovering World History, and the Viking World. His other interests include acoustic guitar and bass, ultimate frisbee, Venetian cuisine, and the Red Sox. Former course websites:
