| News Head of the Mississippi, Fall 2009 On October 4th, Macalester participated in the Head of the Mississippi Regatta, hosted by the Minneapolis Rowing Club. We raced against national champions, the University of Minnesota, as well as St. Thomas, and Michigan Tech Rowing Club. The women placed 6th and 9th out of nine in the Women's Collegiate 4. The men's four placed 5th out of 6 and the men's eight placed three out of four. Novices also participated in their first race of the season, racing a mixed 8. Head of the Des Moines, Fall 2009 Macalester traveled to Des Moines on September 25 to race 4.58km up the Des Moines River. The team raced three mixed boats to great success, placing 1st and 2nd out of nine in the mixed collegiate 4 race, and 1st out of five in the mixed collegiate 8. The men's varsity 4 also raced, coming in 11th out of fourteen. Over 31 teams were present at the Head of the Des Moines and we raced against teams such as: the University of Iowa, Creighton University, Colorado State University, St. Cloud State, St. Ben's, University of St. Thomas, Wheaton, and the University of Minnesota. This regatta is a promising start for out 2009 Fall season. Mac Weekly Article on Macalester Crew, Spring 2009 Season Summary, Fall 2008 Macalester Crew's fall season ended with the North Star Challenge. It was a great ending to a good season with a team total point third-place finish. The women's varsity four had a great second place finish only 20 seconds behind the St. Thomas A boat. They defeated 8 boats including UST B, Iowa State, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, and Lawrence University. The varsity men's four came in 6th behind 4 University of Wisconsin boats and UST. The women's novice eight defeated St. Olaf, UST, and the University of Minnesota E boat in their second place finish. The men's novice four came in 11th place defeating Iowa State, St. Bens/St. Johns, St. Cloud State and Lawrence University. |
