Nov. 20: Kafka's Cages Symposium Kafka's Cages Symposium on freedom and imprisonment in Kafka's work will include: Karyn Ball, University of Alberta, Canada; John Mowitt from U. of Minnesota; Dimitris Vardoulakis, University of Western Sydney, Australia; and Kiarina Kordela of German Studies. A reception will follow the symposium. Nov. 20: Turkey Trot! Come collect canned goods with your friends to help those in need enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this holiday season. Prizes for top collectors and snacks for all participants. Sign-up online through the CEC website or email Maction@mac with questions. All donations will go to Keystone, a local service organization. Lilly Summer Fellows reside in an intentional community where they live out common practices that reflect their shared values. Weekly dinners and reflection groups bring faculty, staff and community leaders to the house for informal teaching and mentoring. Come to the Full-Time Service Fair to speak with representatives from organizations including Teach for America, Breakthrough St Paul, Minnesota Reading Corps, and Peace Corps.

Dec. 4: Hip-Hop for Hope Hunger and Homeless month comes to an epic close with the Hip-hop for Hope performance event. Slam poets, spoken word artists, and dance crews from Macalester and the Twin Cities have all joined together in an effort to raise money for the children of the Family Place, and to raise awareness of youth homelessness. Performers include: Mac DJ Club, Bodacious, MacSlam, Battlecats, ConciouSpirit, Voice of Culture, Danving Dave, Khary Jackson and the national champion slam team Soap Boxing, and many more! Dec. 9: Decemeber Tutor Training: Meet the Chair of SPPS Board of Education! For December's Tutor Training we will be welcoming the Chair of Saint Paul Public Schools Board of Education. Kazoua Kong-Thao will be speaking about her overall experience with the School Board (how she became involved, what has kept her around and what she hopes to work on in the future with SPPS). Additionally, she will share what it is like to be a school board member, the challenges and the rewards. As always this will be an informal event with lunch provided.
