MACALESTER
COLLEGE/ADMISSION POSSIBLE PARTNERSHIP
Opportunities Abound is an exciting partnership between Macalester College and Admission Possible, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help make college admission possible for talented, motivated and economically disadvantaged students in Minnesota. Through this enhanced relationship, Macalester and Admission Possible promotes the enrollment of promising Minnesota low-income students, many of whom are students of color/multiracial students, into Minnesota colleges and universities. This project joins together the offices and programs at Macalester that currently work independently with area youth and students of color, including the Community Service Office, Lealtad-Suzuki Center, MAX Center for Academic Excellence, Financial Aid, and the Admissions Office. The coordinated effort by the various Macalester offices that work with community youth will provide better support to Admission Possible. It is our hope that you will join us in this effort through the Opportunities Abound Student Leadership program!
While the focus of our partnership is working with the Admission Possible student participants, there will be several opportunities to connect with a variety of youth groups who visit Macalester. As a student leader, you can indicate whether you have a preference for working with elementary, middle, or high school youth. During the year long commitment you will be supported through monthly training sessions (first Tuesday of each month from 4:30pm – 6:00pm) that will include topics such as developing multicultural competencies in working with youth, role of a mentor and boundary issues, college test preparation and application process.
