Take a New Faculty to Lunch "There really IS such a thing as a free lunch.” Sponsored by the Center for Scholarship and Teaching, the "Take a New Faculty to Lunch" program encourages tenured faculty to have lunch with a new faculty member as a way to foster connections across departments and divisions and help new faculty acclimate to the Macalester environment. Junior faculty value connecting with more senior faculty both in and outside of their departments. While they have ample opportunity to meet and connect with their departmental colleagues, it can be more challenging for new faculty to meet senior colleagues in other departments and divisions. This program is designed to encourage those connections. We hope that senior faculty will reach out to new faculty in other departments and divisions and offer to take them out to lunch. The Details Tenured faculty should contact one of this year’s new faculty CLICK HERE FOR THE LIST) and arrange to go to lunch at the Campus Center or a local restaurant. You are advised to pay for lunch and submit the receipt WITHIN two weeks to Marga Miller at the CST for timely reimbursement. Please note on the receipt your name first, followed by the name of the new faculty member you hosted. We will reimburse reasonable lunch expenses only. We hope that many faculty will take advantage of this program. New faculty may participate as often as they like. Tenured faculty may participate twice. If a tenured faculty member would like to participate more often, s/he should contact the CST to determine whether funds will permit this.
