Grant Writing Seminar in the Natural Sciences

In Fall 2008, the Serie Center began a grant writing program for junior faculty in the Natural Science Division. Conceived of, and led by, Associate Professor Paul Overvoorde (Biology), the semester-long seminar helped new faculty in the Natural Sciences to learn about successful strategies in this critically important professional skill. The seminar was coordinated with assistance from Macalester’s Corporate and Foundation Relations, senior faculty scientists at Macalester, and the Provost’s office. Eleven pre-tenure faculty members participated. During Spring 2008, this group transformed itself into a reading and discussion group that addressed the future of teaching and research in the biological sciences. Owing to the success of this initiative, During Fall 2009 the Serie Center will co-sponsor (with Corporate and Foundation Relations staff) a grant seeking seminar for faculty members in the Humanities and Fine Arts.
