Hello families, host families, and friends!
As you are planning the final details to get your student onto campus for the first or last time, we hope you are planning on coming back to campus for our Family Fest weekend. This website includes the preliminary schedule of weekend activities and events.We have events that have been happening for years as well as new traditions that we would like you to participate in. We are continuing the traditions of the President’s State of the MACunion, the Wellness 5K Run/Walk, the Student Research Poster Session, theater production, student musical performances, athletic events, and Scottish Breakfast.
We have a new partner for the weekend with Diversity Weekend. Diversity Weekend is an annual student-led initiative organized surrounding issues of multiculturalism as a catalyst of change in the thoughts and actions of the campus community. This year’s theme is Domestically Global: Race, Identity, and Transnational Global Leadership.
We are also starting some new traditions to include more families in the Weekend. We would like all families to participate in our 2nd Annual Family Recipe Book. This is an opportunity to share something your family eats with your student’s new Macalester family. The other way we would like you to participate is by sending photos of your family for us to do a Photo Exhibit. If you are able to attend Family Fest, you will see these photos throughout campus.
As you will also notice, the Mac Market, Minnesota History Center—Lake Street Exhibit, Lake Street & Global Market Tour, and Family Dinner are all new additions to Family Fest. Please take the time to read their descriptions in the Event Descriptions section of this website.
We sincerely hope you will join us for this fun-filled weekend. Your student and the rest of the College community look forward to being your host for the weekend.
