MCSG - Macalester College Student Government

The Macalester College Student Government (MCSG) provides official representation for students in College governance, coordinates student action and allocates the student activity fees. The legislative body meets regularly throughout the year providing a forum for the expression of student opinions.

Macalester students have created over sixty organizations, and new ones are formed based on student interest. Student organizations are chartered through MCSG. Some of the organizations include: Adelante!, Latino students' group; Amnesty International; the Black Liberation Affairs Committee (B.L.A.C.); Queer Union; the Macalester International Organization (M.I.O.); Mac Christian Fellowship; Mac Conservatives; Mac Jewish Organization; Mac Peace and Justice Coalition; Feminists in Action (F.I.A.); MACTION, the community service organization; Macalester Ecological Society (MECOS); the Program Board; and Mac-Ultimate frisbee.

Executive Council

The executive council consists of the President, Vice President, Academic Affairs Chair, Financial Affairs Chair, Student Services Chair, and Programming Board Chair. This group coordinates MCSG business and is responsible for setting the legislative agenda and providing leadership each year. Executives are elected in spring semester.

Legislative Body

The legislative body is the elected representative council. Its members are divided into constituencies based up on campus residences for first and second year students and by academic major for third and fourth year students. Elections for upper division representatives are held each spring. Elections for first and second year representatives are held in early fall semester.

Constitution

The MCSG constitution was revised by the 2004-05 Legislative Body, and will be submitted for student approval in early fall semester 2005. The Constitution, along with the by laws, are the primary documents which guide the work of MCSG. Copies are available from the MCSG Office on the second level of the Campus Center or from the Dean of Students Office in Weyerhaeuser Hall.
