Wellness Programs

Overview

Macalester offers a wide variety of programs and facilities to enhance the wellness of the campus community. Exercise, regular quality sleep, and eating right are important aspects of staying healthy at college. Here is a partial list of activities offered to help students incorporate wellness into their college experience.

Facilities

In addition to the facilities offered at the Athletic Center there is an exercise facility located in Turck Hall for use by all students. It is equipped with recumbent bikes, elliptical machines, treadmills, and weight machines.

Alcohol Education

Many programs are available for students, both in the form of educational workshops as well as online assessments and personalized websites. Students found in violation of campus policies can complete a class led by a health educator.

Back Door Health Tips

Student wellness programmers staff a weekly interactive information booth that explores the most current, relevant health topics facing today’s college students.

Educational Programs

Staff conduct a variety of educational programs and coordinate wellness events during the year include topics on physical fitness, eating disorders mental health, addictions, and safer sex.

Meditation

Mindfulness meditation classes are offered during each semester, designed to strengthen the mind for higher learning and academic success.

Kickboxing, Stability Ball, and Yoga

Classes are offered regularly throughout the academic year.

Massage

Full body massage is offered to students by appointment through Health Services. The massage bodywork performed by licensed massage therapists is designed to counteract the multiple stressors facing students.

Safer Sex

Information on healthy sexuality including sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive options, and decisions about sexual activity are offered through Health Service’s peer education group entitled SEXY (Students Educating X’s and Y’s).
