Ann Bolger Vision Awards
The Vision Award is given to a student who has initiated positive change or has created endeavors that contribute to the educational experience of students in a thoughtful, collaborative and informed fashion. This leadership award is named in honor of Ann Bolger, Director of Residential Life at Macalester from 1993 to 1999. The vision award applauds a student leaders’ abilities to initiate positive organizational change or creative endeavors that contribute to the education experience of students in a thoughtful, collaborative and informed faction. “Students learn where they live and live where they learn.” – Ann Bolger. This year two students have been honored with this award, one from the Junior Class and one from the Senior Class.
Nicholas Christensen was nominated by Kathy McEathron, Residential Life Operations Manager. He is currently a senior. Nick has been a student employee for Residential Life all four years at Macalester. He also has worked many summers on projects to help Residential Life better serve its students. He has helped pair numerous roommates, hunted down and handed out hundreds of keys, and spent hours moving boxes and crates in storage. Nick has truly become indispensable in Residential Life as he helps plan and develop room draw policies, created off-campus listings on the web page and spent hours working with local landlords. He has become a positive voice for all students in the Residence Halls. His nominator writes “Nick has contributed to the office of Residential Life by offering creative solutions to dilemmas that we face each year…he has been thoughtful and supportive…as well as understanding of the practical problems of housing all the first-years and sophomore and only a portion of the upper-class students.”
Elizabeth McCreary was nominated by Charles Greene, Hall Director. She is a current junior. Liz has been a Resident Assistant for the past two years; her sophomore year in Dupre and her junior year in George Draper Dayton Hall. Liz goes above and beyond in her role as an RA in Residential Life. She has participated or lead many projects in her two years in Res. Life. She was an active member of the Associated Twin Cities College Housing Administrators (ATCCHA) student staff conference, she has been instrumental in the current selection process for student staff members as well as the search process for professional staff members in Res. Life as well as Campus Life. Besides her active involvement in the Residence Halls, Liz is involved in many community service projects. Liz is also a past Dean of Students Award recipient. Liz’s nominator writes “Liz McCreary is a quality individual in every respect…she is the total package, caring, committed, truly selfless and never self-serving, always reliable, beloved by colleagues, and always ready to help others.”
