Civil Discourse Award
This award is given to an individual who has promoted civil discourse on campus on issues related to difference and inclusivity. Through programming, education and negotiation, they have increased understanding and dialogue among Macalester community members.
Brittany Lewis was nominated by Allison Greenlee, Assistant Director for Campus Programs. Brittany is the Lectures Coordinator for the Program Board. One of her programs, the Oxford Style Political Debate was an attempt to begin conversations at Macalester about the upcoming Presidential election. Brittany has taken a strong leadership role this year and is also very attentive to the details of her position. Other roles that Brittany has been a part of include other committees in Campus Programs as well as a Resident Assistant last year. Brittany is a past Dean of Students Award recipient. Brittany’s nominator writes “I applaud Brittany’s desire to bring these difficult topics to the forefront and in such a way that her peers were not idle listeners but active participants.”
