Previously Selected Award Winners
Watson Fellowship The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship gives college graduates of unusual promise the freedom to engage in a year of independent study and travel abroad following their graduation. Approximately 50 are selected nationally. This year we have two Watson Fellowship award recipients. They are Zachary Devlin-Foltz and Héctor Pascual Alvarez.
Fulbright Teaching Assistantship This year Christine Park was granted a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship. Fulbright grants are for graduate study abroad in approximately 150 countries around the world. The students will be conducting a research project in the country of their choice.
Student Employee of the Year Award Hillary Mohaupt was nominated by Kim David from College Relations where Hillary is a student employee. Hillary was selected for this award by student employment committee. This award acknowledges Hillary’s many contributions and her willingness to go beyond the call of her job description.
Outstanding Sophomore of Color This award is sponsored by the American Can Company and recognizes a Macalester sophomore of Color who has not only made a positive contribution to the Macalester Community but also has excelled in the classroom. This year’s recipient is Elyse Dempsey.
Latina Award for Excellence Each year an endowed cash award is given to a Latina senior woman who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and service to community. This year’s recipient is Carmen Phillip.
NCAA Leadership AwardThe athletic department is happy to announce that Sofia Shaw and Nathan Young are both 2008 recipient of the NCAA Leadership award that recognizes student leaders at NCAA affiliated schools.
Global Citizenship Award The Global Citizenship Award is presented annually to the student who best exemplifies a commitment to global citizenship through academics and service to community. This year’s recipient is Héctor Pascual Alvarez. Héctor was recognized at a dinner that was held in conjunction with the Second annual Civic Forum.
George Stanley Arthur Award for Community ServiceThis year’s recipient of the George Stanley Arthur Award for Community Service is Raina Fox. This Award is an endowed award given to a graduating senior who exemplifies Macalester’s tradition of service to the community and academic excellence.
Mollie & Frank Steudle Award for Community Service This year’s recipient of the Mollie & Frank Steudle Award for Community Service is Elizabeth Mathiot. The Steudle Award for Community Service is given to a graduating senior with distinguished work in interdisciplinary studies in physical, mental and emotional wellness, active in community services and planning a career dedicated to helping others.
