To the 1,822 alumni who participated in the Be a Number challenge, we say,"thank you." These alumni gave their first gift to the Annual Fund or renewed their lapsed support for the college between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008 and the first $100 of their gifts were matched dollar for dollar through a generous match provided by trustees and friend of the college. Because of the generosity of the alumni who "Became a Number," $89,908 that will be matched through this challenge. Why is alumni support important? Alumni support of the Annual Fund signals to the broader community that Macalester is a transformative place, a place worthy of financial gifts. Annual Fund participation is a critical component for Macalester’s continued success. Corporations, foundations and ranking organizations all look at alumni participation as a key indicator of the health of an institution.
