Macalester's planned facilities will signal
a new level of commitment to well-being and to athletics, not only
in comparison with Macalester's current space but in comparison
with new facilities at other colleges.
- The larger field house will accommodate four multipurpose
courts and a 200-meter indoor track.
- The performance gym for basketball and volleyball will
seat 1,200 to 1,600 spectators, making it eligible to host NCAA
national tournament competitions.
- Aerobics, Pilates, weight training and other wellness activities
will enjoy about triple their current space. A large fitness and
multipurpose area will provide equipment and programs in a flexible
space that can be reconfigured as needs change over the years.
- The Leonard Natatorium will be rebuilt with 8-10 lanes
and will include the most up-to-date timing equipment.
- A juice bar and an inviting lounge area will provide
a new gathering place for all members of the Macalester community
to relax, study and socialize.
- Winton Health Services, part of the Student Affairs Division
of Macalester College, will be moved from its current location
to the new facility where it will be better positioned to offer
medical care, counseling services and health promotion activities.
