Endowed Research Funds
Macalester faculty believes that independent research that complements the traditional major courses is an important part of the undergraduate liberal arts experience.  Student-faculty research often takes place full time during the summer months where the student is financially supported by internal or external grants.  Students also pursue research during the academic year for independent study credit.

Research projects for Macalester students can either be independent or collaborative.  Projects generally include a significant educational component such as a paper, final project, required readings, or direct instruction by the faculty supervisor.

These one-on-one collaborations greatly benefit both students and faculty. Students benefit by having the opportunity to put classroom knowledge into practice, exercise their creativity, and experience the thrill of making new discoveries.  Faculty benefit by having the opportunity working more closely with enthusiastic, high quality students.
