I spend my time thinking about and planning how to get the most
visibility possible for Macalester. That may mean meetings, writing,
talking on the phone, off-campus appointments or interviews with
people. I also spend a lot of time trying to help my colleagues
in College Relations and provide communications support for the
senior administrators of the college, including the president. In
my spare time, I teach a journalism class every spring.
I can help answer your questions about Macalester, help publicize
your events, help you promote your activities or organization and
help you connect with the right people at the college. I can also
help match you up with student interns, particularly in the communications
area.
About Me
I am married to Ann Conroy, have two great daughters, Sadie, 12,
and Evie, 9, and two cats, Roy and Nicki. I've been at Macalester
for 15 years after a career in journalism. After graduating in journalism
from the University of Minnesota, I worked as a reporter at the
Minneapolis Tribune (now StarTribune) for 10 years. I then moved
to WCCO-TV as an assignment editor and later assistant news director
for nine years. From 1991-93, I was the late Sen. Paul Wellstone's
press secretary in Washington, D.C. I arrived at Macalester in early
1993 and have been here ever since.
