"The members of the freshman class coming in this fall [2006] were generally in sixth or seventh grade on September 11, 2001," he points out. "These kids grew up and came of age in a time when everyone talked about terrorism, and I think this really heightens and punctuates the emotions on any discussions involving terrorism or the Middle East," said Andy Overman, classics, in an interview for a cover story of the Boston Globe Magazine entitled "Too Hot to Handle."

After a national competition in undergraduate education that drew more than 675 proposals, the Ford Foundation has selected Macalester College as one of 27 higher education institutions to receive $100,000 grants for projects that promote academic freedom and constructive dialogue on their campuses.
