Cultural House Org Office

Adelante! is dedicated to increasing awareness and appreciation of U.S. Latina/o, Chicana/o and Latin American culture, politics and society at Macalester. The group addresses local and global issues concerning Latina/os and encourages participation by all individuals both on campus and in the surrounding Twin Cities community.

Afrika!
Afrika! is a student organization committed to nourishing cultural, intellectual, political and economic awareness of the African continent by the Macalester community. Afrika! achieves its objectives through hosting various cultural functions, giving presentations and inviting African Scholars and performers to Macalester. Afrika! is open to anyone interested in issues concerning the African Continent.

Amnesty International
Amnesty International works to raise awareness of human rights issues in the community. Student members write letters to governmental officials, organize events and bring speakers to campus.

Art Alliance
The Art Alliance serves to bring together students under the common interest of studying and creating art, both on campus and in the greater community.

Asian Student Alliance (ASA)
ASA is an organization designed and directed towards the interests and needs of the Asian students at Macalester. However, membership is open to everyone. We hope to provide a supportive and interactive community, which appreciates the diversity and similarities of its members, and their cultures while raising awareness internally and externally.

Bad Comedy
“Sketch Comedy on the Bleeding Edge,” Bad Comedy provides delicate morsels of carefully prepared sketch-comedy goodness to the Macalester community.

Banshee
Published bi-annually, this forum for women’s creative voices includes poetry, short stories, art, photography, and essays.

Black Liberation Affairs Committee (BLAC)
BLAC seeks to foster a greater understanding of the issues and ideas that touch members of the African Diaspora through cultural, political and social programs.

Bridges
Bridges is dedicated to celebrating the multi-racial, cross-cultural, and trans-racial adoptee experience at Macalester through discussions, organization activities and campus-wide events.

Caribbean Student Association (CSA)
CSA provides support to students of Caribbean origin or heritage and exists to strengthen and explore the Caribbean presence on campus and to share this knowledge and identity with others

Chanter
Chanter is a literary magazine published each spring by students, featuring art and writing from students. It welcomes participants from across the college.

Council for Religious Understanding (CRU)
CRU is a multi-faith group that promotes discussion of religious and spiritual issues on campus by sponsoring discussions and speakers throughout the year. Our mission is to create space for open and respectful conversation and learning across traditions and faiths. All members of the Macalester community are invited to help plan and attend our events.

Creating a Harmless Environment to Enjoy Buds Appropriately (CHEEBA)
CHEEBA is dedicated to the re-legalization of marijuana. We work both within the Macalester community and the greater metropolitan area to promote a more positive conception of cannabis. Members are active through their participation in rallies, forums, and various forms of social entertainment.

Europa
Europa represents European students at Macalester, promotes European culture and increases awareness of European issues by providing an opportunity for those interested of any origin to actively participate in organizing cultural, educational and social events for the entire community.

Experimental College (EXCO)
EXCO, initiated by students at Mac, exists to broaden and expand the status quo definitions of education and learning. The vision is rooted in a desire to provide members of the Macalester College and twin cities communities with the opportunity to share and participate in educational alternatives.

FACE AIDS
FACE AIDS is to mobilize and inspire students to help fight AIDS in Africa here at Macalester.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
FCA is a non-denominational student-led Christian group designed for student-athletes at Macalester, though all students are welcome.

Feminists in Action (FIA) / Students Together Against Rape and Sexual Assualt (STARSA)
FIA’s mission is to promote awareness of gender equity as a human rather than woman issue and stop the process of women’s issues from slipping through the cracks. We also seek to redefine the feminist movement for a contemporary society. STARSA’s goals include increasing campus awareness of rape and sexual assault in the community and at Macalester, promoting action against sexual violence, and providing resources and support for students at Macalester. This organization also provides a forum for discussion on issues concerning sexual violence.

Flying Fingers
Musicians of all experiences, abilities, styles, coming together to form small groups and perform folk music. Groups come together at the end of the year to perform together at the Flying Fingers concert.

Fresh Concepts
Fresh Concepts is a comedy group dedicated to educating and entertaining through the medium of improvisation.

GeoClub
The GeoClub is open to all students and is an outlet for people who want to explore, share, and expand their earth science knowledge as well as spend some time outdoors. The GeoClub’s main activities are: weekend camping trips, day field trips to local parks and museums, cook-outs and geology-focused community outreach.

Grapevine Media Collective
We exist to make radical social change by building the independent media and media justice movements. The collective facilitates collaboration between student media producers and student activists, undertakes community projects focusing on independent media, provides media production training for students, and deploys Mac’s resources in the independent media and media justice movements.

Habitat For Humanity
Macalester Habitat for Humanity works with other Twin Cities colleges and high schools to sponsor and build a house every year. We also organize fundraisers, educational opportunities and trips during Fall and Spring Breaks.

Health Professions Student Community (HPSC)
Devoted to creating a community for pre-health students. Provide resources and guidance for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.

Hip Hop Dance Team
We are a Hip Hop Dance Performance Group that infuses urban culture with different styles of hip-hop dance as a means of self-expression for Macalester students. We perform in a variety of different shows including the Fall Dance Concert, BLAC Showcase, Queer Cabaret, Diversity Weekend show, etc.

Kids All About Dancing All The Time (KAADAAT)
KAADATT is an organization developed to foster a sense of community among the Macalester student body through both organized and spontaneous dance. Our dances feature an inclusive, open atmosphere and a huge variety of music styles.

Knight Moves

Level Up: Japanese Speaking Club
Level Up is devoted to practicing Japanese. We aim to improve our proficiency through conversations, watching videos, and various cultural activities.

Mac Baha'is
We seek to stimulate, inspire, and serve people in their search to find relationships between modern life and spirituality through the Teachings of Baha’u’lláh and the Baha’í Faith. We aim to foster a spirit of unity that overcomes cultural, religious, and ideological barriers. All can contribute to this endeavor.

Mac Bike
We encourage bicycle use as an alternative form of transportation in the Twin Cities, and make bikes fun!

Mac Catholics
This organization centers on exploration of the Catholic faith, whether it be through a weekly Mass, discussion group, monthly dinner or table talk. Dialogue with other religious organizations is an essential component of this group’s activities.

Mac Christian Fellowship (MCF)
MCF is a group of Christians who seek to glorify God. Their purpose is to help Christians grow in their faith and to be witnesses of God’s love. MCF is affiliated with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

Mac Clabbers
A club for Macalester’s scrabble enthusiasts. We meet every week to play scrabble games, friendly or competitive, beginner or advanced. We also attend National Scrabble Association tournaments and official club meetings.

Helping the students of Macalester produce and promote their own films.

Mac Gaming Society (MGS)
MGS is one of Macalester’s oldest and largest organizations, and as the title implies we are an organization devoted to accommodating game-playing on campus, as well as helping gamers find each other, and educating others about gamer culture. Even if you don’t play games, you just might be a gamer.

Mac Investment Group (MIG)
MIG manages the “Tartan Fund,” originated by donations from Economics Department alumni. This student-run fund currently manages over $20,000. MIG also conducts tutorials and seminars in order to introduce students to the world of investing. MIG meets weekly and is open to everyone.

Mac Jewish Organization (MJO)
MJO is an interdenominational group that plans events surrounding the Jewish holidays as well as cultural, volunteer and entertainment activities. We have open Shabbat services and dinners twice a month, and our big events include High Holiday services, Sukkot, the Hanukkah Party and a Passover Seder.

A club for sharing the joy of all social dances, especially swing.

Mac KSA (Korean Student Association)

Mac Muslim Student Association (MSA)
MSA provides a safe space for Muslim students to come together and talk about religion and beliefs. We also welcome non-Muslims as members and try to hold events to inform campus of Islamic related issues. We also celebrate Islamic-religious occasions and holidays.

Mac Players
A student-run theater organization, Mac Players produce 4 to 6 shows a year and host the Player’s Ball in December. The goal of Mac Players is to provide a venue for students to collaborate and realize theatrical visions through nomadic performances around the Macalester campus.

Mac Protestants
Mac Protestants offers the Macalester community an inclusive space to pursue spiritual scholarship and progressive theologies guided by the tradition of the Protestant faith. We foster a supportive community in the context of and in response to modern religious complexities.

Mac Salsa
MacSalsa promotes Latin dancing through weekly instruction and outings to local salsa venues.

Mac Unitarian Universalists
The Unitarian Universalists exist to provide opportunities for students to explore their spirituality through the sharing of individual religious insights and personal faiths.

Mac Unitarian Universalists
Macalester Unitarians work with the local Unitarian church to provide spiritual support and community for Unitarian Universalist students on campus.

Macalester’s independent student newspaper since 1914, it serves as the campus’ premier source of information and a forum for debate. It is a valuable experience for those interested in writing, editing, layout, photography and web design.

Macalester Aeronautics and Space Administration (MASA)
MASA promotes scientific experimentation and engineering for their own sake. We place special emphasis on projects which push the boundaries of human ingenuity, and which strive to celebrate the inquisitiveness and creativity of the human spirit.

Macalester Anime Society (MacAnime)
We at MacAnime love Japanese Animation! Come and enjoy weekly Anime showings with your fellow fans of this increasingly popular art form. We also plan trips for Mac Students to anime related events around the Twin Cities.

Macalester Association for Sub-Continental Ethnic and Cultural Awareness (MASECA)
MASECA aims to educate the greater Macalester community about issues facing the Asian Sub-Continent—may it be political, social or economical. We also host cultural events here on campus. Anyone is welcome to join, regardless of background.

MCSG is the organization to join if you wish to participate directly in campus policies and events. In an environment which seeks to maximize student leadership, MCSG’s elected student representatives govern the budgeting of chartered student groups, facilitate discussion on campus issues and act as a liaison between students and the administration.

Macalester Democrats (Mac Dems)
The Macalester Democrats organize rallies, forums, debates and work on political campaigns for the local DFL and National Democratic Party. Members also participate in service projects throughout the year.

Macalester Entrepreneurship Club

Macalester International Organization (MIO)
MIO aims to represent the diverse Macalester international student body and bridge the gap between international and American students and to encourage their participation in campus wide programs, activities and issues. The organization also increases awareness of international focused issues in and around Macalester via programs and activities which promote the sharing of diverse perspectives, both domestic and international.

Macalester Martial Arts Club (MMAC)
The MMAC is dedicated to teaching and learning martial arts. Our instructors are students who have attained a high rank in the martial arts style, and who wish to share their interest and experience with the Macalester community. All levels of skill, from beginner to advanced, are welcome.

Macalester Model United Nations (MacMUN)
A simulation of the United Nations in which participants represent different countries to debate and write resolutions about topics on the United Nations’ agenda. Most topics of discussion are current, and through this activity you will learn to develop diplomacy, negotiation and public speaking skills. MacMUN also has the opportunity to travel to national conferences around the US.

Macalester Object Manipulators (MOM)
A group of people who like to get together and juggle. We have weekly informal meetings.

Macalester Peace and Justice Committee (MPJC)
An organization interested in social change, political justice, and related endeavors as they relate to life on campus, in the community and in the world.

Macalester Traditions (Trads)
The Trads are Macalester’s only all-male a cappella group. Their unconventional style of performance and arrangements separate them from most other collegiate a cappella groups, providing entertainment for people in and around the Macalester community.

Macalester Urban, Land, and Community Health (MULCH)
MULCH is the student organization that loves dirt and believes that getting dirty is healthy for the soil, for individuals and for the campus community. Members tend the community garden by the field house and seek to raise sustainable agricultural awareness as best we can.

MacCares (Mac Conservation and Renewable Energy Society)
MacCares is an organization dedicated to bringing the advances in conversation practices and renewable energy to Macalester. Focusing on student projects and practical implementation, Mac Cares works to bring the way we live into alignment with the ideals we hold.

MacGOP
MacGOP is established to represent, encourage, and promote interest and dialogue in contemporary conservative societal and political issues. In addition, the group provides volunteer efforts, coinciding with the Minnesota College Republicans, for Republican candidates across the state of Minnesota as well as nationally. Any politically interested conservative student is encouraged to join.

MacPic
Macalester’s photography club provides darkroom access to its members. It serves as a community for those wishing to continue developing their photographic skills through practice, museum trips and a spring show.

MacSoup
Mac Soup is an organization devoted to creating a fun, wacky, original social environment based around cooking and eating wonderful food. Through Mac Soup’s monthly soup events, students experience a mix of lounge atmosphere, hangout space, and a home kitchen… all to the tune of a free meal.

Maction
Maction, the only student-run community service organization on campus, plans one-time service events that facilitate service between the community and Macalester students. Events include: Halloween Party, International Kidsfest, the Double-Deal Auction, dinner discussions and van trips to service opportunities.

Massage Club
The Massage Club is a collective for those who would like to learn, practice and receive therapeutic massages for the purpose of stress relief.

Middle Eastern Student Association (MESA)
MESA aims to support students of Middle Eastern descent, heritage or association, to foster appreciation of Middle Eastern cultures and to raise awareness of issues and concerns important to Middle Eastern people on the Macalester campus. The organization is open to all those interested in the peoples, places and cultures of the region.

Minnesota Nice

Minnesota Public Interest and Research Group (MPIRG)
MPIRG is a student run, non-profit, non-partisan organization committed to training and empowering students to work in the public interest statewide.

NARAL
The purpose of NARAL is to educate the student body about pro-choice issues. Inform, promote and involve the Macalester student body about issues concerning reproductive rights, sex education and family planning through events on campus and in partnership with the local community.

Outing Club
The Outing Club offers adventure in the great outdoors through inexpensive trips, reasonable gear rental and expedition-planning assistance.

Pasifika
Pasifika is dedicated to celebrating the cultures and people from the Pacific Islands. The group is interested in promoting awareness of the diversity and complexities that exist within the vast pan-oceanic identity.

The Program Board is a board of students who work to bring world-class programs to the Macalester College campus. Our programming efforts are targeted to all members of the university community. We are structured to provide cultural, social, recreational, educational, and entertainment programs. Some of our signature programs include: SpringFest, Welcome Week, the Macalester Idol competition, and the weekly Mac Cinema film series

PIPE strives to create dialogue and an awareness of issues affecting American Indian and other Indigenous peoples.

QU dedicates itself to the creation of safe spaces for queers and friends through a commitment to education, community building, personal support, and social change both on campus and in the broader community. QU welcomes all students, irrespective of identity.

Residence Hall Association (RHA)
RHA is dedicated to facilitating a community by addressing and representing the concerns of Macalester College residents. They create and host social activities such as a fall scavenger hunt, a masquerade ball, and open houses to stimulate residence hall and campus life.

Scoil Rince Mac [skol rink_ mak] is an organization that provides opportunities to learn and perform traditional Irish dances. Both beginners and experienced Irish dancers are welcome.

The Sirens are Macalester’s all-female, student-run a cappella group. We choose and arrange our own songs and perform throughout the semester on campus and at Twin Cities events.

Sirens
The Sirens are Mac’s only all-female, student-run a capella group. There are between 8 and 13 members with auditions for new members every fall. The Sirens perform various events on and off campus throughout the year, including an end-of-semester concert with the Macalester Traditions.

Ski & Snowboarding Club
The Ski and Snowboard Club is an organization dedicated to enjoying Minnesota winters. The club connects Mac ski and snowboard enthusiasts, takes members to local ski areas and plans a major ski trip for spring break. The club is open to avid skiers and riders as well as those who’ve never even seen snow.

Society for the Advancement of Logical Thinking (SALT)
SALT exists to promote an evolutionary perspective on life and culture. This purpose will be upheld through discussion and subsequent deconstruction of current everyday life in terms of evolutionary significance of the biological and psychological processes that formulate it.

Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
The SAAC provides a way to address the needs and concerns of student-athletes at Macalester. We are involved in community service, and have events that enhance the quality of life for all students.

Student Labor Action Coalition (SLAC)
We are a student-led group which focuses on labor issues both locally and globally. We attempt to bring awareness of ongoing issues to the Mac community and build relationships with local organizations.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
Students in Free Enterprise is a non-profit organization active in 42 countries and territories. SIFE provides college students an opportunity to make a difference in their community through creating educational outreach projects that promote the spirit of free enterprise.

Students Making Infinite Love Exist (SMILE)
SMILE! Is dedicated to promoting feelings of love, happiness and well-being on the Macalester campus, through random acts of kindness, events and hugs. It is our belief that these positive feelings will work to reduce student stress and promote optimism, and happy students.

Thistle

Ua Ke (Hmong Student Organization)
Ua Ke, which in the Hmong community means “together”. This name will eliminate any assumptions of exclusion on membership, participation, and support because it implies the importance of a unified community, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or sexual orientation. Our goal is to inform the Macalester community of Hmong history, people and culture, raise awareness and to reach out to the local Hmong community in the twin cities.

A challenging sport open to anyone who enjoys competition, travel and flying discs. Try it and see why Division I athletes are trading the prestige of the gridiron and the chic of the soccer field for a chance to flick their wrists.

Volleyball (Men's)
Pass, set and hit are three words which should dominate your vocabulary. Play and be mighty.

Water Polo (Men's)
One of the best ways to beat the Minnesota winters is to avoid them. Stay indoors and play a sport requiring stamina, dexterity, and goggles.

This free-form community radio station offers a variety of programming from indie-rock to hip-hop, as well as live in-studio bands and call-in talk shows.

Women in Economics (WIE)
WIE exists to create an arena for discussion on issues and challenges facing women majoring in economics. We provide support and guidance for female Macalester economics majors.

Women in Science and Math (WISM)
WISM organizes activities for women in and interested in the sciences and math. Our goal is to provide a variety of informative, supportive, and fun activities that allow women to explore these areas of interest such as information for graduate school and careers, youth outreach, field trips, film viewings and discussions.
