NOTICE OF VACANCY

Macalester College Department of Theater and Dance

DANCE SCHOLAR/CHOREOGRAPHER: The Macalester College Theater and Dance Department invites applications for a part-time faculty position (.58 appointment, benefits-eligible) in the Dance Program, beginning August 2008. This position is for a period of one year, with expectation of renewals if successful. The .58 appointment includes the following responsibilities: teaching three (3) four-credit courses per academic year and choreographing one piece per year for a mainstage Dance Concert. This position will call upon the successful applicant's reach as both a teacher/scholar and practitioner. The full-credit courses ideally will be a rotation of dance history/theory courses (i.e., Cultures of Dance, Studies in Dance History) with practice-based full-credit courses in an area of interdisciplinary movement specialization (i.e., kinesiology, physical theater, etc.). Qualifications: MFA in Dance with college-level teaching experience. Ph.D. in Dance History or Performance Studies welcome. There should be evidence in the applicant's materials of continuous participation in the field, through scholarly publication and/or publicly-presented work.

The Dance Program of the Theater and Dance Department offers a Minor in Dance and, in conjunction with the Theater Program, a Combined Major in Theater and Dance. There are two fully-produced mainstage Dance Concerts per academic year, featuring choreography by guest artists, faculty and students. The Department also sponsors an audition-only student Dance Ensemble.

Application: Applicants should send a letter describing their interest and qualifications, a curriculum vitae, graduate transcript(s) and 3 letters of reference to: Becky Heist, Director of Dance Program, Macalester College, 1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, MN, 55105. For inquiries, please contact heist@macalester.edu. Review of applications will begin on March 24.
