Interested in renewable energy but don’t want to install solar panels or a wind turbine?  Homes can purchases wind sourced energy from Xcel through their Windsource program for around $10 for an average customer.

Alternatively, homes can purchase a renewable energy credit (REC) to offset their electricity use.  RECs represent the social, environmental and other nonpower qualities of renewable electricity generation.

RECs and sourced electricity can be certified by Green-e, an independent consumer protection program.  The Green-e website allows users to search by state for certified providers.
